Take me to Islas de Gigantes: A Travel Guide from Roxas City to Gigantes Islands

Thursday, August 11, 2016

All of us need a break now and then from the hustle and bustle of Metro Manila. Allow yourself to goof off and have a vacation- as too much work will drain your energy. But before you go to a very unfamiliar place, do your research. Though it’s hard to step out into unknown territory, you’ll find it’s more rewarding to stretch yourself and grow. Travel helps me discover my passion. We all have something that brings us alive. Hence, investing in your passion is extremely satisfying.

Alvin has been itching for some beach trip since October. I was contemplating between Mati Island and Islas de Gigantes. When I found out about the limited supply of electricity and long travel time to Gigantes Islands, I was a bit skeptical. Adding to that, memories of my long excursion from Cebu to Siquijor came flashing back (Don’t get me wrong I love Siquijor). Islas de Gigantes is Iloilo’s leading producer of scallops so I had to reconsider. :-D After much pondering, we picked the Scallop Capital of the Philippines.

How to get to Isla de Gigantes, Carles, Iloilo from Manila:
The easiest route is via plane. Cebu Pacific has daily flights from Manila to Roxas City and Manila to Iloilo City. However, Iloilo City is 4-5 hours away from Carles while Roxas City is only 1.5-2 hours.

Terminal to Balasan Crossing- 1.5 hours (van)
Balasan Crossing to Bancal Port- 15-20 minutes (tricycle)
Bancal Port to Gigantes Norte- 1.5 hours (passenger boat)

Tricycle to Coco Veranda- 70 php
Tricycle to Hotel Veronica- 50 php
Tricycle to Terminal- 20 php
Van to Balasan- 130 ph
Tricycle to Bancal Port- 100 php
Boat to Gigantes Norte- 300 (including the environmental fee)
CR Fee at Bancal Port- 10 php
Port to Arjan Resort- 20 php (habal-habal)

PS: This is for 2 pax. :-p

From Gigantes Norte to Roxas City Airport:

We woke up at 6:30 am for our 8:00 am boat trip to Estancia Port. The next trip departs at 1:00 pm (Bancal Port). Take time to explore the hidden gems of our country. You can help create jobs for the unemployed and boost the local economy. We should help improve and expand our tourism sector. Tangkilikin ang sariling atin. :-D

Disclaimer: This post is based entirely from my experience. Please do note that we stayed one night in Roxas City because our airline of choice had no flight earlier than 10:00 am.
